Illinois High School Students Hold A Random Drawing To Pick Their Prom Dates
When you're in high school, finding a date to the prom is one of the most stressful things in the world. Will they say yes? What do you wear? How should you do your hair? One high school in Illinois is taking a lot of the guesswork out of prom with their unique approach: a random drawing to assign dates!
At Aquin High School in Freeport, Ill., students don't pick their prom dates. They are assigned their prom dates! Every year since 1926, the boys would take part in a random "lottery" in the library while the girls awaited their fate in the gym. After the lottery, the boys would then perform a skit in front of the girl before announcing the name they drew.
At first, this sounds a little crazy. After all, you could get "assigned" a date that you have never even spoken to! But that's exactly the point. The students say that it's all about bonding with classmates and they love the tradition. One thing, though. If it's all about bonding with classmates, perhaps they should start this Freshman year for Homecoming, instead of waiting until the end of their Senior year.
Just a suggestion!
