Wall Street Journal Report Reveals Montana’s Most Expensive ZIP Code

I’d bet most Montanans are not millionaires.

Lately though, it almost feels like you’d have to be one just to buy a home here.

Big Sky Real Is The Wall Street Journal's Pick

A new Wall Street Journal report looked at the most expensive ZIP codes in every state, and the numbers are enough to make your head spin.

For Montana, they say the priciest spot is Big Sky, where the median home price comes in at about $3.05 million, according to a December 2025 report.

Most people around here would probably agree Big Sky is one of the most expensive areas in the state. But interestingly, HGTV pointed to a different community as having the highest-priced housing.

HGTV Says Gallatin Gateway Is The Most Expensive Neighborhood In Montana

They say Gallatin Gateway, just south of Bozeman, takes that spot in Montana. According to their numbers, the median home price there is around $2,638,136, with one home reaching as high as $18.4 million.

Now some of you might be thinking, well Gateway is basically just the entrance to Big Sky, and you’re not wrong. But most locals will tell you there’s still a pretty clear difference between the two.

At the end of the day, it probably doesn’t matter which one takes the crown, because for most of us, those price tags are still way out of reach.
