Grizzly Football Head Coach Bobby Kennedy has been making the rounds on the media circuit since taking over as head honcho. I don't know how he is as a coach behind closed doors or what his win-loss results will look like, but he's made a fan in me.

Coach Kennedy was on my show, The Daily Drive with Ace Sauerwein, a few weeks ago, and made his highly anticipated debut with our good friends over at The Griz Fan Pod earlier this week.

He shared some absolutely great stories that I had to write about in a new segment I like to call Tales With Bobby Kennedy.

How Coach Kennedy Won the 2006 National Championship

I have to preface this by saying Coach Kennedy is kidding, but he won the 2006 National Championship game all by himself for the Texas Longhorns.

"That last drive, and this is my version, I was the signaler... I always tell people that the most amazing thing happened. The phones went out on the last drive, and I called the last 5 plays, and you can thank me for that National Championship," Kennedy joked on The Griz Fan Pod.

Kennedy ended up on the right side of history in what many deem the greatest college football game ever played, but there's an alternative timeline where he ends up coaching at none other than USC.

"When I was deciding to go to Texas, I interviewed at SC the day before for the running back position," explained Kennedy.

"It was really one of the craziest interviews I ever had. If anybody knows Pete Carroll... It was really kind of disconcerting, because the whole time Pete Carroll is asking me questions, bouncing this basketball, and then he'd go up, get his baseball guy, and start taking cuts. And I was like 'holy cow, is this guy gonna hit me over the head with this baseball bat?'"

Kennedy thought a job offer was coming from USC to coach running backs, and the likes of Reggie Bush.

But just a few minutes after contemplating the SC job, Texas Head Coach Mack Brown called to offer him the wide receivers coach job. It was a position much more familiar to Coach Kennedy.

When Bobby Kennedy Got Offered the Griz Job

Coach Kennedy shared a great story of the night he was offered the head coaching position at Montana.

It's been pretty documented at this point, but Coach Kennedy lived in Bobby Hauck's basement his first season in Missoula.

"The first thing I did, I went upstairs and I knocked on Bobby's door and I said 'Hey, they just offered me the job."

How about that? Going up to your old head coach to say you took his job.
