Tonight’s Golden Goat Game Has Players From Big Sky & Sentinel Buzzing In Missoula
You will not find many better settings at a high school, college or professional basketball games than what you will find tonight at Dahlberg Arena. It's high school's finest night in Missoula. It's
The Golden Goat!
Tonight's battle for Gertie the Goat features the Sentinel Spartans and the Big Sky Eagles. History is on the line in the 6th edition of the Golden Goat night as Sentinel looks for its 2nd Gertie victory while Big Sky looks for its first.
It's a fun night for everyone involved because it doesn't just come down to the games. The students and fans have a say in who brings home Gertie based on school spirit.
Head Coach of the Sentinel Spartans Boys Basketball team Sam Beighle said his guys get behind the event 100%.
"They're super stoked about it," started Beighle. There's just a lot of hype about it. I think through the halls all week at the school, they've been doing videos and stuff for it all season, like prepping, since we started the season there's been something like every other week our team has to go do prep for it."
Coach Beighle's Spartans ended the 4-year reign of the Hellgate Knights last year. It was the first time Hellgate dropped the Golden Goat.
Now, it's Sentinel VS Big Sky battling for custody of Gertie. Head Coach of the Big Sky Eagles Boys Basketball team Zach Murphy is set to coach (as head coach) in his 2nd Golden Goat Game. Murphy wants to make sure his team keeps the task at hand in the forefront, and that's winning the game.

"Yeah, I mean, it's a big talk we have. You know, we focus on the mental part of the game as well as the physical part of the game," said Murphy. "I talked with the boys yesterday, you know, and I said 'Hey you're going into likely one of the biggest games of your life and it's really exciting for you'... But it's really easy to start focusing on everything else. All the people in the crowd, all the noise in the stands."
Tonight at 6 pm, the girls game kicks off the Golden Goat night from Dahlberg Arena. The boys game will tip around 8 pm. If you can't catch the game, SWX will air it live.
