Meet the Griz: After a Difficult Stretch, Landon Ransom-Goelz Returns to College Football
Coming out of Grizzly fall camp, there was one name I heard consistently: Landon Ransom-Goelz. He was getting open, he was catching everything, and he was turning heads.
"I feel like I definitely started getting more integrated with the offense for sure. I feel like I did have a great camp. First week, really just trying to get in with the offense and just make sure I'm in the right place doing the right things. And the second week it was 'all right, let's hit the ground [running],' and I was starting to move a little faster, move with more urgency because I know what's going on, knowing what to look for."
The journey didn't come easy for LRG (I don't know if anyone calls him that, but we're going with it). He redshirted his 2024 season and had his 2025 campaign cut short due to injury.
"Yeah, I would say that 24-25 stretch is probably one of the most mentally challenging times in my life, to be honest."
"You know, I came off a good freshman, true freshman season, recognized [with] true freshman awards and stuff like that... But through the whole time, you know, I just had family in my ear, supporting me, praying for me, keeping God on my side."
Speaking of family, it's a mouthful to say "Landon Ransom-Goelz," but Landon needed to represent both mom and dad on the back of the jersey.
"Mom is Ransom. Dad is Goelz. I feel like I needed to include both of them because it's just part of my identity. They both raised me, and I feel like it's just a strong part of me and who I am."
And both were a huge influence on Landon playing football.
In his debut as a Griz, LRG had a couple of receptions and came within inches of a touchdown, but fumbled the ball out of the end zone. I was standing right there when it happened. Seeing him fight for the endzone to miss it by inches, I know his time is coming for a big moment.
