[UPDATE: 1:48 PM on Tuesday, August 27]

Former Griz Patrick O'Connell was cut by the Seattle Seahawks on Tuesday afternoon.

O'Connell is the third Grizzly cut this preseason.

Monday and Tuesday has not been kind to former Montana Grizzlies vying for spots on NFL rosters. Earlier this week, former Big Sky Defensive Player of the Year Alex Gubner was cut by the Kansas City Chiefs and former Grizzly offensive lineman Dylan Cook was injured and seems to be headed for the IL. ESPN's NFL reporter Adam Schefter tweeted this morning that the Green Bay Packers released Samori Toure ahead of the deadline on Tuesday afternoon.

The former Griz and Nebraska Cornhusker was a victim of an insanely deep Packers receiving core. Toure spent two seasons with the Packers appearing in 22 games, hauling in 13 receptions and snagging one deep-ball touchdown during his freshman year (from Aaron Rodgers of all QB's).

Hopefully, Toure can land on a different team's Week 1 roster. In my opinion, this wasn't so much Toure falling short of NFL expectations as it was the Packers having a very deep receiver core. It's comprised of freak athlete and former North Dakota State Bison Christian Watson, sound Romeo Doubs and young, emerging talent in Jayden Reed and Dontaviyon Wicks.

At this point, Patrick O'Connell is the only hope for Montana alumni to make an NFL roster. O'Connell has been performing exceptionally well with the Seattle Seahawks during their preseason run.

The deadline is 2 pm today (Tuesday, August 27).
