Meet the Griz: Scott Gragg

Former Griz and NFL offensive lineman Scott Gragg raised the 37 Flag at a Griz Football game. We caught up with Gragg on the Daily Drive with Ace Sauerwein after his return to Missoula.

"It was fun and exciting and awesome," Gragg said about the honor of raising the 37 Flag. "It really brings me back to the times when I was playing there and the excitement in the crowd and certainly to play against Idaho."

"My daughter just had our first grandchild, and so she, our new Avery, our grandchild, was right at the base of the flagpole to watch her grandpa raise the flag."

The new family is doing well, but there is one problem for Grandpa Gragg.

"The only issue is I'm stuck in Oregon and they're in Lolo," said Gragg.

Stuck in Oregon?

After an NFL career, how does someone go back to a "regular" job? I was curious what an offensive lineman gets into after his playing days.

"Well, currently, there's always aspirations to get back to Montana," said Gragg. "Right now, I'm a high school principal just outside of Salem, Oregon. I've been at McNary High School for, this is my 10th year. So it's the longest gig I've ever had," joked Gragg.

Gragg's NFL Career

Gragg still keeps up with the Grizzly Football team, but I wanted to ask about his NFL career. Gragg's 10-year career brought him to San Francisco and New York with both the Giants and Jets. If Gragg had to associate his career with one of his teams, which would it be?

"Certainly, would be either the Giants or the Niners. Certainly, I appreciate both teams for different reasons - the history and the legacy and just the organization as a whole for the Giants - I have a ton of respect for and appreciation for them taking a pick on a 1AA tackle out of Montana."

"And then I went to San Francisco and became an All-Pro... and our team had a little bit more success with the Niners."
