Midwinter Fun in Montana: How Locals Beat Cabin Fever This Season
Usually around the beginning of February is when I find myself starting to get a case of "cabin fever". Luckily for me, I have a family member who has a birthday this time of year. Most of the time, all they want to do is to get out into the woods and get away for a bit, which helps relieve the fever.
This winter has been a mixed bag of weather. The ski areas across the state have enough snow to stay open this year, which is good. Some of the sledding hills have seen a lot of action this winter too.
Montana doesn't lack activities to keep people entertained and having fun. Due to some knee issues it has been a few years since I have been able to hit the slopes, so I am always looking for other ways to have fun in the winter.
We put it to our listeners for ideas for having fun in Montana in midwinter. Here is what some of you are doing for fun these days.
Ice Fishing- There is a lot of great lakes in Montana that freeze over and offer a chance for people to fish.
Skiing and Snowboarding- Finding creative and fast ways to get down a snowy mountain are ways that some of us have a good time.
Snowmobiling- Montana has a lot places where you can ride your sled. Safety should be a top concern when snowmobiling, especially in Montana's back country.
Driving In the Snow- Some people avoid deep snow in their vehicles, not Montanans. Some of us actually search for it for a chance to use our vehicles the way they were designed.
Indoor Golf- Some people like to stay indoors and have fun. This indoor course is a replica of the Old Works Golf Course in Anaconda, Montana. Even though it is in the middle of winter, you can still get out and swing.
Work- Some people don't have a chance to have fun in the middle of winter in Montana. Even though I work more than I should, I still try to find time to have some fun in the winter. For those that have to work all winter, I am sorry, hopefully you will get some time in the spring to enjoy Montana.
