The spring theme for the ever-popular World View Film Series, a collaboration of Arts Missoula GLOBAL and The Roxy Theater, has been announced.

The series, which features "four international movies (either foreign productions or with a focus on a country abroad)", will focus on "Cultures in Love."

About the World View Film Series

The World View Film Series began in the fall of 2018, and with the exception of the spring of 2020, has presented a spring and fall theme ever since. Past themes explored topics like freedom and democracy, music, art, and food.

This year, the following four movies will be open to the public, free of charge between February and May.

  • February 13, 2023 - Like Water for Chocolate (Mexico)
  • March 13, 2023 - Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon (China)
  • April 10, 2023 - Supernova (UK)
  • May 8, 2023 - Bride & Prejudice (India)

"The World View series shines a light on many films that American audiences may not be familiar with, exposing us to new cultures, different ways of life, and unique styles of filmmaking," said Mike Smith, Operations Manager at The Roxy Theater. For example, "Like Water For Chocolate" based on the novel of the same name, employs magic realism, a unique storytelling device that blurs the line between fantasy and reality, to tell a story of love, family, tradition, and expression through cooking in Mexico.

"Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon," a film from China, was heralded for its visual effects at the time of its release.

"It's a phenomenal martial arts film" Smith said, pointing out that it also features phenomenal actors Chow Yun-Fat and recent Oscar nominee Michelle Yeoh. It's easy to forget that in addition to being an action movie, "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon" is a love story, too.

All films begin at 7 pm, are free, and will take place at The Roxy Theater, 718 S Higgins Ave.
