Now crews have focused on another park in Missoula.
Innovative Solutions for Stormwater Management
If you've been up Pattee Canyon lately, you may have noticed temporary fencing around Takima Park. It's a little off the beaten path, but the goal of this project is the same as the one at Russell Square: helping filter stormwater before it reaches our rivers.

Unlike wastewater, stormwater doesn't go through Missoula's water treatment system to remove pollutants. Instead, it flows from streets, neighborhoods, and hillsides into local waterways. That's why the city has been creating these stormwater wetlands. The natural vegetation helps remove toxins and improve water quality before the runoff reaches the river.
Protecting New Vegetation at Takima Park
Right now, the temporary fencing is there to protect the newly planted vegetation while it gets established. It's also helping keep deer out. If you've lived in Missoula for any length of time, you know deer will eat just about anything, and the city wants those plants to have a chance to grow before the area is reopened to the public.
