Montana has been featured in countless movies and television shows. Some of them have captured what it’s really like to live and work here. Then others have taken some liberty with what it’s really like to live here.

If you really want to get a taste of what it’s like to live in Montana, seeing a documentary or two about the state is a good place to start. The 23rd Annual Big Sky Documentary Film Festival is coming to Missoula, February 13-22. Documentary filmmakers from around the globe will show their work. There are some films made here that can give you a taste of what it’s like to live in Montana.

One film that we are looking forward to seeing is Montana Grind. It will be featured at this year’s film festival. This movie highlights Montana’s skateboard community and took over 11 years to make.

When the topic of Montana skateboarding comes up, one name is mentioned almost every time. That would be Jeff Ament, of Pearl Jam fame. Ament and his fundraising efforts with the Montana Pool Service and the Montana Skatepark Association have helped fund and build over 40 skateparks across Montana. Ament has contributed the soundtrack to the film.

Montana Grind will be making its Northwest debut on Wednesday, February 18 at noon at the Roxy Theater.
