5 Tips For Playing The 2024 ‘Montana Millionaire’
This Friday, November 1st, is a big day for the Montana Lottery, and it may be their biggest day of the year. It could also be the biggest day of the year for four lucky winners, as there will be four jackpot prizes of $1,000,000.
With the record speed in which the tickets sold out last year. I wanted to know if there are any tips to help make sure the sale goes smoothly for everyone this year. I reached out to Celina Clift from the Montana Lottery, and here are some suggestions she shared for players:
Get There Early- Tickets go on sale at 5:30 a.m., so it's a good idea to be in line before then if the vendor is open. Keep in mind that not all vendors across the state open that early. For the first time, the Montana Lottery headquarters in Helena will be selling tickets, with coffee and donuts ordered for the morning. You can check a list of all Montana Lottery vendors on their website and contact your chosen location to confirm its opening time.
Know How the Game Is Played- All stores will be printing tickets from the same pool. Once one store is sold out, they are all sold out. There aren't going to be tickets available at a different location or at the lottery headquarters.
Hold Onto Your Tickets- This is crucial. Clift emphasizes that there are multiple drawings. There will be a $250,000 drawing on December 2nd and the grand prize jackpot drawings on December 26th. Winners will need to present their tickets to claim any jackpots.
Don't Buy After Market Tickets- It is illegal for someone to sell a ticket that isn't a licensed vendor with the Montana Lottery. If someone is offering to sell tickets they are breaking Montana law.
Don't Buy "Pre-Printed" Tickets- Clift reminds players not to buy pre-printed tickets, explaining:
Don't buy any pre-printed tickets, only purchase tickets you see printed by a lottery machine. That violates our licensing agreement for retailers to print tickets in advance.
The tickets can only be printed as fast as the machines allow, so please be courteous and patient with the employees selling them. The Montana Lottery has also recommended that vendors increase the volume on the machines so that alarms will notify players when there’s an instant winner of $100 or $500. The machine will print an instant winning ticket immediately after the raffle number ticket.
Tickets go on sale the morning after Halloween, so who knows who will still be in costume early the next morning. Good luck to all the players this year and please play responsibly. Hopefully Montana will see a few more millionaires in our state this year.
