Montana has been known as 'The Last Best Place' for a long time. Depending on where you go these days, some might debate whether Montana still deserves the title 'The Last Best Place'. There are still places in Montana where you can be reminded about how truly great Montana is.

Some Montana towns remain secluded, offering a glimpse into part of Montana's past. Here are five of Montana's secluded towns, that still feel like Montana. WorldAtlas.com has listed nine secluded towns in Montana, but for me some of these towns don't have the feel of Montana towns from when I was growing up. These are the secluded towns that for me, still feel like the 'old' Montana.

Dillon, Montana-  Even though Dillon is along the busy Interstate 15 south of Butte it still feels secluded. Patagonia outdoor clothing has an outlet location in Dillion, so if you ever want to score some deals it may be worth it for the drive. Dillion is home to the University of Montana Western campus, but it still doesn't feel like the bigger Montana towns.

Choteau, Montana- Located a little over 50 miles North West of Great Falls, Choteau is another secluded town. 100 miles from Glacier National Park and just south of the Montana Dinosaur Center, Choteau is a town that feels secluded.

Havre, Montana- Havre, located along Montana's 'Hi-Line' on Highway 2, is home to Montana State University Northern. It’s just over 35 miles from the Canadian border, with the Milk River to its north. The closest big town, Great Falls, is over 100 miles away.

Fort Benton, Montana- Fort Benton is located a little over 40 miles north of Great Falls and has a fascinating history. Not only that, the town is one of the most romantic spots in Montana and is home to one of the most haunted spots in the state. Being secluded can help with both of those things.

Fort Peck- Perhaps the most secluded of all is Fort Peck, located on Fort Peck Lake. It's almost three hundred miles from Great Falls and over 250 miles from Billings. Fort Peck is known for its excellent hunting and fishing opportunities. Fort Peck Lake, created by a dam built on the Missouri River in the 1930s, has long been a popular spot for anglers. According to Wikipedia, when Fort Peck Lake is full it is the 5th largest artificial lake in the country. It is also another secluded town in Montana.
