If you are lucky, you might see one of Montana's largest members of the deer family, standing six feet tall from hoof to shoulder, and weighing in at more than 1,000 pounds roaming around our Big Sky backcountry. Or hi-five the mascot at PaddleHeads Stadium in Missoula, BUT you never expect to see one above you looking down from the rooftop! You may not have seen this unbelievable story on the internet the first time around so It’s worth sharing again.

The Ranch at Rock Creek has an Instagram video circulating nationally again showing a moose on the roof of the Granite Lodge browsing on Aspen leaves as happy as can be.

Following the thread, the video was taken by General Manager Jon Marten who says that part of the lodge has a living roof-planted with native vegetation and wildflowers that is partially built into the hillside. That allowed the hungry Moose to casually walk onto the roof for a tasty Aspen leaf snack as does lots of other wildlife around The Ranch at Rock Creek. It’s not the first known close encounter with a moose on that Montana roof, it happens on occasion.
