Wordle in Montana: The Word That Stumped Big Sky Country in 2024
Over the holidays, there were a lot of conversations that I overheard, but wasn't a part of. I heard a lot of "What do you have?", "Where is your A?", "What did you start with?", "How many tries did it take you?" Even though I have never played the online game, "Wordle" remains popular.
It's a simple concept: you have six attempts to guess a five letter word. According to Wikipedia, the game was played 4.8 billion times in 2023. The game was purchased by the New York Times in 2022, and is still being played by billions of people. According to the N.Y. Times the game was played 5.3 billion times in 2024. I know this game is popular because people I know continue to share their results on social media.
Some websites are devoted to helping players get hints for guessing the word. To me that seems to be cheating, but it's just a game. As with everything online these days people track how well they do. Not only that, there are people who are tracking how many people are looking for hints.
The website, Unscrambler, helps users solve word puzzles, including Scrabble. They used Google Trends to find which state asked for the most help with the Wordle game. Montana struggled with one word in particular and that happened on Sunday June 30. Before we get to the word that stumped Montanans, here are the words that stumped our neighbors.
- Idaho- 'Brawn' on December 22
- Wyoming- 'Outer' on May 12
- North Dakota- 'Jolly' on April 21
Montana, along with other states, struggled to guess the word 'Buddy'. The other states that had a hard time figuring out that one are South Dakota, Rhode Island, Utah, and West Virginia. Good luck in 2025, and have fun playing.
