Missoula, MT (KGVO-AM News) - On December 14, 2025, a Missoula Police Department Officer responded to a Super Stop on N. Russell for a report of a person who had dropped a bag of meth in the store the day before at approximately 10 AM. The store employee provided a small baggie containing a crystalline substance consistent with methamphetamine. A customer had reported it. It was secured by staff, put in an empty cup, and provided to law enforcement.

Surveillance video showed 43-year-old Bucky Smith, whom the officer knew from numerous encounters, including that morning at the Poverello Center, walk up to the cash register and drop a small Ziploc baggie from his person. It remained on the floor until the employee picked it up with gloves on. It appeared to be the same as the baggie provided to the officer.

The substance was tested on a TruNarc device and was presumptive positive for methamphetamine. A couple of hours later, the officer saw Bucky in the courtyard at the Poverello Center. He asked Bucky if he remembered dropping anything at the Super Stop the day before.

Bucky was read Miranda rights and asked if he remembered dropping the baggie. He denied it. However, when he was shown the baggie, he claimed there was barely anything left in it, which is why he did not remember it. Bucky was placed under arrest.

During a search incident to arrest, a small silicone container was located with a white crystalline substance in it. The substance was tested with a TruNarc device and was presumptive positive for meth. Bucky also had a meth pipe on his person.
