Missoula, MT (KGVO-AM News) - On March 8, 2025, a Missoula County Sheriff’s Office Deputy responded to the Missoula County Detention Center, at the request of a Seargent. The deputy was informed that a Detention Officer had been assaulted while booking an inmate in. 47-year-old Joshua Ferguson had been transported to the detention center by the Missoula Police Department after being arrested for assault and resisting arrest.

The detention officer responded to the booking area to assist with the booking process for Ferguson, as he was being uncooperative. During this time, Ferguson began arguing with the detention officer. The detention officer was standing to the right of Ferguson and was attempting to get Ferguson to comply with the other officer’s requests.

It was at this time that Ferguson used his right leg to kick the detention officer, striking him in the right knee. The detention officer reported his pain increased over time, beginning with a dull pain, which intensified. The detention officer described the pain as a 5 on a 1-10 scale.

The assault was captured on video and reviewed by the deputy. The deputy informed Ferguson that he would be charged with assault on a peace officer, to which Ferguson stated he didn't do it on purpose and said he did it because the detention officers were attempting to put restraints on him that he didn't feel he deserved.
