Missoula, MT (KGVO-AM News) - On October 3, 2025, at around 11:53 P.M., a Montana Highway Patrol Trooper was patrolling around Great Northern Ave. As the trooper was approaching the intersection of Palmer and Great Northern, he observed a red SUV fail to stop at the stop sign and turn right. The trooper turned on his overhead lights to initiate a traffic stop.

The trooper observed the SUV speed up rapidly, then brake hard, and then turn its left turn signal on. The trooper utilized his siren to get the attention of the driver. The SUV then turned left onto Union Pacific and sped up. The trooper turned left to follow the SUV, at which time the driver of the SUV slowed, pulled over to the right shoulder, and came to a sudden stop.

The driver exited and began running west on Union Pacific. The trooper exited and started chasing the driver on foot. The trooper yelled for the male to stop, and about 10 to 20 yards from the red SUV, the driver stopped running, took his shirt off, and put his hands above his head. After backup arrived, the driver was placed in handcuffs.

The Driver was Already on Probation

The driver was identified as 40-year-old Brandon Darrah. Darrah stated he was on probation. The trooper spoke with the on-call probation officer, who requested that Darrah take a PBT and that Darrah be arrested for a probation violation. Then the PO authorized a search of the red SUV.

The trooper located a marijuana pipe with a partially burned marijuana leaf in the center console, as well as a mostly gone bottle of R and R alcohol. The trooper also observed other items of marijuana paraphernalia within the car.

In interacting with Darrah, the trooper observed Darrah to have bloodshot and watery eyes, the strong odor of consumed alcohol, and noted Darrah was slurring his words. Darrah agreed to take the PBT, which indicated a .260 BrAC, which is over three times the legal limit.
