The Missoula County Attorney’s Office charged 14 new criminal complaints this week, which is two more than last week and right around the weekly average. According to County Attorney Kirsten Pabst, only one case this week involved partner or family member assault.

“In the non-family member violent category, we charged assault with a weapon, privacy and communications, and a burglary,” Pabst said. “In one, the defendant was pounding on doors in his neighborhood and threatening neighbors, which led to a nearly 20-hour standoff with police and SWAT. In that case, the defendant was charged with assault with a weapon, but the investigation is ongoing. We charged privacy and communications. In that case, the defendant allegedly left a threatening voicemail for her son’s teacher.”

Pabst said that defendant has a history of outbursts and threatening school staff. In the burglary case, the defendant allegedly attempted to break down her neighbor’s door and threatened to kill her neighbor.

“In the endangerment category, we charged four new cases,” Pabst said. “Three of those were felony DUIs, which is a fourth or subsequent offense. The fourth case involved possession of drugs and lots of traffic offenses. The allegation there is that the defendant crashed into the rear of a commercial motor vehicle and fled. The defendant was located by police. During a jail search, they turned up cocaine and another unknown drug.”

In the property crimes category, Pabst said her office charged a deceptive practices, felony theft, and a robbery case.

“In one of those, the defendant was causing a scene at a gas station,” Pabst said. “The defendant chased a clerk, flipped a cigarette in the clerk’s face, and allegedly stole some cigarettes. In the drug category, we charged two new meth cases. Finally, we charged a tampering with or fabricating physical evidence. In that case, the allegation is that the defendant admitted to bringing a false urine sample for a urinalysis because he had allegedly been drinking the previous night.”
