On May 29, 2022, at approximately 9:03 a.m., Missoula Police Department officers were called to a report of a burglary at a residence in the 700 block of Turner Street. Police Public Information Officer Lydia Arnold explains.

“A 911 dispatcher took a call and the caller informed the dispatcher a male, Joshua Allen, had gained entry into their residence and punched a male in the face,” Arnold said. “On scene, officers were directed to a shed in the back of the residence. Officers could hear noises coming from the shed. Officers gave commands and Allen exited the shed. Allen complied with officer’s commands. Officers made note of the mental state Allen exhibited, including being disoriented and delusional.”

According to court documents, Allen made statements indicating he believed his girlfriend was tied up under the shed and that he thought the neighbors were listening to everything he said and “laughing”.

Officers spoke to the residents of the home, who were identified as Allen’s sister and mother. Both reported that Allen lives in the shed on the property, but was not allowed into the main residence without permission from the mother. Both also reported that Allen has been suffering from delusions, which they believe have been exacerbated by Allen’s use of illegal drugs.

“Officers on scene spoke to those involved,” Arnold said. “During the preliminary investigation, officers gather statements and observed damage to the residence. Allen was arrested for aggravated burglary and partner or family member assault. He was transported to the Missoula County Detention Center.”

According to the mother, Allen broke into her residence through the back door. Allen then proceeded to punch his brother who lives in a separate unit of the residence. The mother indicated she felt afraid of Allen and his increasingly erratic behavior. However, the brother indicated he was not afraid of Allen and was uninjured by Allen’s actions.

Officers spoke further with Allen, who admitted he had entered the home in an effort to locate his ex-wife, but he could not explain why he believed his ex-wife might be inside and further indicated he had not seen her in months. Allen is currently being charged with one count of felony burglary.
