Missoula, MT (KGVO-AM News) - On November 22nd, 2024, Missoula Police Department Officers were dispatched to a physical disturbance at the Poverello Center. Dispatch advised that two males were in a physical fight by the fence at the shelter. Upon arrival, Black Knight Security directed officers to an individual, John Doe, with blood on his face.

Doe stated that the other male with Black Knight Security had hit him with a bat. An officer detained the other individual in handcuffs without incident. He identified himself as 18-year-old Richard Windyboy.

Windyboy complained of knee pain and mentioned being hit in the head. The officer did not see any marks, cuts, lacerations, or redness on Windyboy’s face. Medical arrived on the scene and checked on Windyboy. Windyboy had an odor of alcohol emitting from his person.

An officer interviewed Doe and observed that his face was covered in blood which had run down to his shirt. The blood appeared to be coming from his head. There was a large amount of blood in Doe’s hair and a laceration to his head. Medical personnel later advised that Doe would need to have the laceration stitched.

An officer interviewed Doe; however, he was under the influence of alcohol which made his story difficult to understand at times. Doe stated that he did not know Windyboy prior to this day. He said Windyboy approached him due to feeling ‘wronged’ about drugs.

For an unexplained reason, he said Windyboy, and possibly a female, began to attack him. He said Windyboy had a “bat” and possibly a “club” which Doe described as a “golf club.” Doe said he got the club away from Windyboy and escaped.

The bat was never located. Windyboy claimed the female he was with may have been the person who took the bat/club along with his bike, fleeing the scene. Windyboy was transported to St. Patrick's Hospital and medically cleared for detention. He was then transported to the Missoula County Detention Facility.

Windyboy is currently being charged with felony assault with a weapon.
