Missoula, MT (KGVO-AM News) - On November 21st, 2022, a Missoula Police Department Officer observed a vehicle fail to come to a stop while emerging onto Broadway Street from the Thunderbird Motel parking lot. The officer caught up to the vehicle and observed it slow down at the intersection of Broadway and Van Buren. Police Public Information Officer Lydia Arnold picks up the story.

“Officers conducted a traffic stop on a moving violation,” Arnold said. “The driver, Rilley York, was with another male. In casual conversation, the males provided very different statements to the officer about what they were doing in Missoula and what they had been doing.”

The officer confirmed with dispatch that York’s license was suspended and the officer proceeded to arrest him on that offense.

“The officer noted movements of the individuals being fidgety, unable to focus, and overall anxiousness,” Arnold said. “During a consent search, drugs were located. York was arrested on criminal possession of dangerous drugs. This case is still under investigation with the Missoula Police Department.”

The officer performed a search incident to arrest on York and located 3.35 grams of presumptive positive methamphetamine and one prescription pill bottle that contained various pills of different sizes and colors. The officer used a pill identifier to attempt to identify the pills. According to court documents, the officer believes that the bottle contained the following:

  • 3 Clonazepam pills, Schedule IV Controlled Substance
  • 2 Buprenorphine pills, Schedule III Narcotic Analgesic
  • 1 Focalin XR capsule, Schedule II Controlled Substance
  • 55 Lorazepam pills, Schedule IV Controlled Substance
  • 3 Alprazolam pills, Schedule IV Controlled Substance
  • 23 Vyvanse capsules, Schedule II Controlled Substance

All of the above substances are being sent to the Montana State Crime Lab for further chemical analysis.

York is currently being charged with seven counts of felony criminal possession of dangerous drugs, altering labels on dangerous drugs, driving while a suspended license, and two other traffic violations.
