Missoula, MT (KGVO-AM News) - On January 28, 2025, at 4:18 PM, the Spokane Police Department provided a statement about a recent shooting. According to Officer Daniel Strassenberg, detectives with the SPD Major Crimes Unit (MCU) identified the suspect in the shooting incident that took the life of 13-year-old Gavin Looper.

“The incident took place in the early morning hours of January 25th in the 2800 block of East Heroy Avenue,” Strassenberg said. “The suspect in the deadly shooting is Glen Dylan Burkey, 25. Burkey is 5'8" and weighs roughly 210 pounds with green eyes.”

Strassenberg said the shooting does not appear to be a random act.

“Probable cause has been established to arrest Burkey for 2nd Degree Murder, Drive By Shooting, and 2nd Degree Assault,” Strassenberg said. “Burkey should be considered armed and dangerous. If you have information on the whereabouts of Burkey, do not approach and instead call 9-1-1. If you have non-emergency information on this incident, please contact Crime Check at 509-456-2233.”

On January 29, 2025, the Missoula Police Department reported that they located Burkey. Police Public Information Officer Whitney Bennett explains.

“The Missoula Police Department received information that a homicide suspect out of Spokane, Washington, was in the Missoula area,” Bennett said. “Further investigation led officers to a location in the 2400 block of Clark Fork Lane. Just after 12 today, the Missoula Police Department, including patrol officers and the Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) team, responded to the scene.”

To ensure a safe resolution, Bennett said Flash Sound Diversionary Devices were deployed.
