Zero Montana Cities on “Best Winter Destinations” List… Good! Less Visitors For Us
How is it possible that there are no Montana cities on WalletHub's "Best Winter Holiday Destinations (2023)" list?
Don't get me wrong, I'm happy we didn't make the list. If people don't know about Missoula, Bozeman, Big Sky, Red Lodge and Whitefish then we don't have to put up with visitors. That being said, the top 10 is still asinine.
- Atlanta, Georgia
- Washington D.C.
- Chicago, IL
- New York City
- Denver, CO
- Cincinnati, OH
- St. Louis, MO
- Kansas City, MO
- Philadelphia, PA
- Boston, MA
.... what the hell is that list? First off, how is Atlanta a winter city? High temps are in the 50s from December through February. Am I missing something?
Second, all the cities listed don't seem like winter activity destinations. If you're looking to stay inside with no skiing, snowmobiling, ice fishing, or hiking then I guess those cities are great for the winter. I was dumbfounded when I first read the list.
Upon review of their criteria, it makes a tad more sense... just a tad though.
- Travel costs & hassles
- Local costs
- Attraction
- Weather
- Cold-Weather Activities
- Safety
Ok, ok, ok... I concede the point that it's more difficult and expensive to fly into Missoula, Bozeman or Helena. The rankings also get some validation on the "weather" category. It can be brutal here.
Maybe the list is correct. You definitely don't want to visit Montana in the winter and invade all of our wonderful, quaint cities with all your touristy tourist selves (wink, wink).
If you look at the top 32 cities on the list there are some hilarious entries. You're telling me Grand Rapids, Michigan, Worcester, Massachusetts, Baltimore, Maryland, and Omaha, Nebraska are better winter destinations than Missoula or Bozeman, Montana?
Good riddance! Let Omaha, Grand Rapids and Worcester put up with tourists while we enjoy the fresh pow to ourselves.
WalletHub also ranked the best "Warm Weather" destinations if you're looking to get out of the cold.
