Missoula Sheriff Identifies Snowbowl Fatal Crash Victim

Missoula, MT (KGVO-AM News) - On April 11, 2023, the Missoula County Sheriff and Coroner, Jeremiah Petersen, released the name of the man who died in the vehicle vs. pedestrian incident near Snowbowl. The man has been identified as Raymondo L. Tesoro, 66, of Lolo, Montana. 

On April 5, 2023, law enforcement officers from the Missoula County Sheriff’s Office and Montana Highway Patrol were dispatched to Snowbowl for a report of a vehicle vs. pedestrian crash. Emergency responders also arrived on the scene. Dispatch advised that the suspect vehicle was spinning circles in the parking lot, struck Tesoro, and pinned Tesoro between two vehicles. 

A Montana Highway Patrol Trooper and Missoula County Sheriff’s Deputy arrived at the parking lot. The trooper observed a group of people performing CPR on Tesoro near a Nissan pickup. The trooper, along with other medical personnel, attempted lifesaving measures on Tesoro, but they were unsuccessful. 

According to court documents, the trooper looked around and observed a person on the ground near a truck in a grey coat crying. The person was identified as the suspect driver who was driving a green GMC Sonoma. The GMC Sonoma was registered to 49-year-old Gregg Hancock. 

The trooper began taking pictures and Hancock kept saying he had killed his friend. The trooper finished taking pictures and observed Hancock walking towards his patrol vehicle. The male identified himself as Hancock and explained he had been drinking.  

Hancock said he was having fun in the parking lot by spinning circles. Hancock said he saw his friend and decided to mess with him by driving toward him. When Hancock applied the brakes, the vehicle slid into Tesoro pinning him to the back of the other pickup.  

The trooper informed Hancock he was going to be investigated for DUI. Hancock performed the standardized field sobriety tests. Hancock’s results indicated 13 out of 18 clues for impairment. Hancock refused to take a preliminary breath test. The trooper then arrested Hancock.  

The trooper requested and was granted a search warrant for Hancock’s blood. Hancock was transported to St. Patrick’s Hospital where a blood draw was conducted.  

Hancock is currently being charged with felony vehicular homicide while under the influence. On April 7, 2023, Hancock was released from the Missoula County Detention Center. Montana Highway Patrol is investigating this incident.
