Wanted Man Had $125,000 in Warrants, Caught With Drugs in Missoula

Missoula, MT (KGVO-AM News) - On December 11, 2023, a Missoula Police Department Officer was contacted by a U.S. Marshall who had located a male, 33-year-old Cameron Asencio. The officer was looking for Cameron to serve outstanding warrants, which totaled $125,000. The officer responded to the Walmart on Mullan Rd. where Cameron was reported to be with a female who was later identified as 32-year-old April Salois.  

The U.S. Marshall informed the officer that the Walmart loss prevention had been watching Cameron and April as they were suspected of attempted theft of a grocery cart full of merchandise. Officers entered the store and placed Cameron in handcuffs. 

During a search incident to arrest, an officer located two “tooter” straws in Cameron’s front left pocket. Additionally, the officer located a small silver container in Cameron’s pocket which contained four suspected fentanyl pills. Cameron was transported to the Missoula County Detention Center. Jail staff conducted an inventory search of Cameron’s backpack, which revealed multiple tooter straws and two glass pipes.

Officers Contact April 

Another officer contacted April and was informed by a U.S. Marshall that she had a warrant. The officer advised April that she had warrants and attempted to gain control of her arm. April grabbed the officer’s hand to remove it, turned, and pulled her arm away. The officer told April to put her hands behind her back, but April tensed her arm and actively continued to pull away from the officer. 

Other officers responded to assist in securing April in handcuffs. April continued to tense both arms and pull her arms away from the officers. April was advised to stop resisting and was eventually placed into handcuffs. According to court documents, April later admitted to knowing she had warrants.  

April was transported to the jail and staff located four suspected fentanyl pills within her bra. Jail staff also conducted an inventory search of April’s satchel which contained cards with names and phone numbers written on them, April’s ID card, Suboxone strips, jail receipts, a fentanyl test kit, four cut straws with burnt residue, and a bag containing 12 small white in color tabs with “R” imprinted on one side and “X” imprinted on the other side. 

Both April and Cameron are currently being charged with felony criminal possession of dangerous drugs and criminal possession of drug paraphernalia. April is also being charged with resisting arrest.
