Got Talent? Billings Symphony Hosting Auditions for Tenured Positions

A 2/15/23 press release from the Billings Symphony Orchestra announced upcoming auditions for a variety of tenured musicians. Auditions begin on April 1 and run throughout the month.

“The Billings Symphony Orchestra is an extraordinary professional orchestra, populated with passionate, talented musicians,” says Anne Harrigan, music director and conductor of the BSOC. “We strongly encourage musicians from around the region who are interested in playing at this level to audition.”

Here's what the BSO is looking for.

Established in 1951, the Billings Symphony Orchestra is the largest professional orchestra in Montana, with over 135 musicians. They'll be auditioning for the following:

• Principal Timpani
• Principal Percussion
• Second Flute
• Second Bassoon
• Third Bassoon/Contrabassoon
• Fourth Horn
• Second Trumpet
• Principal Viola, Assistant Principal Viola, Assistant Principal Cello, and Section Strings (violin, viola, cello, bass).

About the audition process.

According to BSO, here's how the audition process works,

The Billings Symphony is a professional orchestra, and all musicians must successfully complete a double-blind audition* prior to engagement. Double-blind auditions are held with the candidate performing behind a screen where the auditionee cannot see the audition committee and in the same fashion, the audition committee does not know the identity of the auditionee. (*Final rounds may be unblinded.)

If vocals are more your thing, they will be holding their next round of chorale auditions in August 2023, with exact dates to be posted on their website in July. The next upcoming event for BSO is the Henry Mancini Institute Spring Quartet on 2/23, which we wrote about HERE.
