Jared Leto is no stranger to taking on big, big roles for the big, big screen. From unforgettable side gigs in movies like Fight Club and American Psycho to career-defining performances in Requiem for a Dream and Dallas Buyers Club, Leto always seems to immerse himself in his acting work, and that appears to be truer than ever with his latest resume addition as the Joker in Suicide Squad. Check out the first official high-def trailer for the new movie -- with a brief but awesome look at Leto's Joker -- in the video above.

It was announced in early December that Leto would take on this role, and since then there has been a lot of discussion as to whether or not his Joker will live up to past portrayals; when the first photo of a tattooed Leto with a shiny grill was released, those discussions became even more divided.

However, after watching the 30 Seconds to Mars frontman make his appearance in the Suicide Squad trailer, we here at Diffuser are convinced: We can't wait to see Leto's performance ... and we're already having nightmares from just the few seconds he's given us!

As for Leto's rock and roll gig, he's keeping busy in that realm, too. On Aug. 22-24, Leto and his band are hosting Camp Mars in Malibu, Calif., an event that will feature campfire sing-a-longs, hiking, yoga and two performances by 30 Seconds to Mars. You can find more information on the summer camp here.

Suicide Squad hits theaters on Aug. 5, 2016.
