When it comes to tonight's Sublime With Rome show at The Wilma, there's good news, and there's bad news. First, the bad news. Bud Gaugh has left the band. Bud was the original drummer and one of the founding members of Sublime. He also played for Long Beach Dub Allstars and was drumming for Sublime With Rome until this past December. The RAD news is that he's been replaced by Josh Freese. Josh is probably one of my top 5 favorite drummers, which is saying a lot, 'cuz I have a 'thing' for drummers. If you're not familiar with Josh's amazing work and very interesting career, I bring you 5 Reasons To Love Josh Freese.

Josh was a member of Nine Inch Nails.

Not a permanent member, but nobody really is, as Trent Reznor is really the only true permanent member of NIN. Josh played for NIN from late 2005 to late 2008 and appeared on the With Teeth and Year Zero albums.

Josh is a permanent member of A Perfect Circle.

As a fan of Josh's long and very eclectic career, it has become very clear to me that he has the unique ability to work well with quirky, weirdo, genius types. Examples: the Mothersbaugh brothers (Devo), Trent Reznor, Rivers Cuomo (Weezer). So not only can he kick the s--t out of a set of drums, he also has the great social skill to deal with people that may not be so easy to work with. And not just that, the incredible skill to jump from band to band without missing a beat. Pun intended.

Josh is a permanent member of The Vandals and Devo.

Josh has been drumming for The Vandals since 1989 and has performed on every one of their albums since. He has also been a member of legendary cult band Devo since 1996, and will even sport the signature lampshade hat upon request.

You have probably seen Josh live.

At this point, you've seen so many shows, and Josh has been in so many bands, it's highly likely the two of you have run into each other at some point. If you saw Sting at the Adams Center in 2005 you saw Josh. If you saw Nine Inch Nails at the Adams Center in 2008, you saw Josh.
