Lawyer’s Pants Literally Catch on Fire While He’s Defending an Arsonist in Court
Lawyers don’t exactly have the reputation for being the most honest people in the world. And for one lawyer in Miami, Fla., the phrase “Liar liar, pants on fire” actually became a real thing during a trial recently.
WPXI reports that Defense Attorney Stephen Gutierrez was defending a client that was accused of arson. Throughout the trial, Gutierrez was fidgeting with something in his pocket when all of a sudden, smoke started to come out of it. Gutierrez left to take care of his issue and then came back into the courtroom, still wearing his burnt britches. He claimed that the small pocket fire was caused by a faulty e-cigarette battery.
The judge wasn’t really buying it and now the prosecutor is investigating the case. The thought is that Gutierrez staged the incident as part of his case to help prove his client's innocence.
