Megadeth’s David Ellefson Delivered Lecture on Martin Luther + Theology of Heavy Metal Lyrics
Megadeth bassist David Ellefson combined his passion for metal along with faith at a lecture yesterday (March 17). Having recently become a Lutheran pastor, he spoke on Martin Luther and the theology of heavy metal lyrics in Edmonton, Canada.
The event was held in the Tegler of Concordia University of Edmonton and was sponsored by the Canadian Centre for Scholarship and the Christian Faith (CCSCF), in addition to the FaithLife Financial "as a part of the Reformation 500 celebrations."
Announcing the lecture on Facebook (post below), Ellefson exclaimed, "The similarities are remarkable and fun for all!" Director of the CCSCF, Dr. Bill Anderson, noted, “Ellefson will no doubt entertain and educate at this very exciting event."
Ellefson has also studied at Concordia Lutheran Seminary in St. Louis and founded the MEGA Life ministries, which serve as a satellite of Shepherd of the Desert Church (LCMS) in Scottsdale, Ariz. The bassist / pastor recently delivered a non-denominational church service at the Megadeth Boot Camp held last week (March 10 - 13) as well.
In April, Ellefson will celebrate the grand opening of his first brick and mortar Ellefson Coffee Co. shop. With an already established line of coffee being offered, the coffee shop will serve up various blends including Roast in Peace, She Wolf, Kenya Thrash and Urban Legend as well as products and memorabilia related to the coffee company as well as the bassist's EMG Label Group.
