Hold the excitement, everybody, it's just one photo. Still, the idea of former Dream Theater drummer Mike Portnoy and guitarist John Petrucci posing together in the same picture is something to cheer for.

Once again confirming the two still maintain a close friendship following Portnoy's highly-publicized exit from the band in 2010, the drummer shared the photo of him and his former bandmate celebrating the holiday season in New York City as they stood in front of the always spectacularly lit Christmas tree in Rockefeller Center.

"Happy Holidaze from MP & JP! Good times tonight in NYC for the annual #PortnoyPetrucci Holiday Gathering," the drummer wrote in the recent tweet, which can be seen below.

The image is reminiscent of the feel-good photo Portnoy shared on New Year's Day of 2018, which also showed the prog metal legends smiling together, accompanied by the hashtag "#givepeaceachance." Despite both Petrucci and Portnoy downplaying the idea of a Dream Theater reunion over the years, some fans mistook the image for a sign that the drummer's return to the prog metal group was imminent.

For both musicians, it was a busy year. Petrucci released Distance Over Time, Dream Theater's 14th album and the ever-busy Portnoy had just two studio albums under his belt this year — The Neal Morse Band's The Great Adventure and Flying Colours' Third Degree. The drummer also has a 2020 album on deck as Sons of Apollo will issue their second record, MMXX, on Jan. 17.
