Alright, I know what you're thinking: "Wait a minute, didn't this guy just have a story about how he got punched on the bridge on Higgins a few weeks back? There's no way he could have ANOTHER story about smashing up his face so soon after that one, is there?"

Well... turns out, yes. April just really was not my month.

OK, Mike, What Happened This Time?

So on the bright side, this time around it wasn't due to a fight or anything like that - the only person to blame on this one is me.

About a week ago, I decided to go hike the M Trail on Mount Sentinel while my girlfriend was at softball practice. I had been feeling kind of inactive recently and hadn't had a ton of time to exercise, but I've hiked the M before so even though I knew it was a tough climb, I figured I could handle it.

Cut to: I'm about halfway up the M and start getting tired. Also not unusual! The M is very tiring! So I stopped and sat down at the nearest switchback to rest for a few minutes...

And the next thing I knew, I was on the ground.

I Fainted on the M Trail

Yep, I fainted on the M Trail. It happened suddenly, and I was only out for a second. There was a super nice couple nearby who helped me back up and I was able to get my bearings. I felt fine a minute later... but I landed face-first on the ground, and my face was in pretty rough shape.

So I went home and my girlfriend convinced me that it was probably a good idea to go to the ER. We did and they ran a bunch of tests. They apparently take fainting very seriously! And it looks like I'm fine; it was most likely just a combination of factors like dehydration and not eating enough food beforehand.

When all was said and done, I had to get a few stitches for one of the deeper cuts, one of the other ones will take a few weeks to heal and may turn into a scar, and I chipped one of my front teeth so I've gotta head to the dentist and deal with that as soon as I can. But we're about a week removed from it now so all the minor cuts and scrapes have pretty much healed, at least.

So yep, April just really wasn't my month. Hopefully May is better! And remember to treat this as a cautionary tale: drink plenty of water before and during your hikes! It could save you a trip to the ER!
