No Missoula Corn Maze this year. No Missoula Haunted House this year. To quote the Wicked Witch of the West, "What a world, what a world."

Well, the University of Montana is doing their part to take the scare out of scarce for traditional Halloween fun this year. Our thanks to Cary Shimek and Jenny Lavey with UM News Service for sending us the "haunted" details.

University of Montana set design students in the School of Theatre and Dance will present an artistic twist on the traditional haunted house for its 2021-22 season with “Haunted.” This walk-through design exhibition showcases four rooms and four distinct environments inspired by scary stories from across the globe.

“Haunted” will run in the Montana Theatre of UM’s Performing Arts and Radio/Television Center from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. Oct. 6-9, from 2 to 4 p.m. Oct. 10 and from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. Oct. 13-15. Please remember masks are required.

According to Professor of Theatre Mike Monsos, “We found multiple texts and legends such as Dracula, ‘The Haunting of Hill House,’ Baba Yaga and Yuki-Onna, and challenged our students to develop a concept and design a 16-by-16 room that the Scene Shop began constructing in spring term 2021.

“These rooms, which include lighting designs, costumes and special effects, are an exciting way to see theatre design work in a new and unique way.”

Admission to “Haunted” is only $5 per person and can be purchased at the door. Audiences are welcome to arrive at any time between the exhibition’s opening time and 15 minutes before the end.
