The Missoula County Attorney’s Office charged 12 new felony complaints this week, which is three less than last week. According to County Attorney Kirsten Pabst, five of those cases involved some form of violence and six were property crimes.

“In the violent crimes category, there were two violations of an order of protection,” Pabst said. “In one, the defendant allegedly texted his ex-girlfriend approximately 50 different times after being served with the order. In the other, the alleged unlawful contact was through Venmo while the order of protection was in effect.”

Pabst said her office also charged a partner or family member assault third offense, obstructing a peace officer, and assault with a weapon.

“In that case, the defendant allegedly assaulted the victim while the victim was driving and then threatened the victim with a hammer,” Pabst said. “In another assault with a weapon case, the allegation was that the defendant threatened to shoot an employee at the Oxford, reached his hand into his pocket, and made it look like he was actually pointing a gun at the employee.”

Out of all the property crimes this week, one was an embezzlement case.

“The defendant allegedly had two different jobs and would clock in at one, leave, and then go work at the other, logging hours at each for the same time frame,” Pabst said. “There was a burglary case. The defendant was working as a custodian at a restaurant and allegedly stole a significant amount of money from some safes.”

Finally, Pabst said a woman was pulled over for failing to use a turn signal and then gave law enforcement a fake name. She was charged with obstructing a peace officer.
