Backcountry Hunters & Anglers and Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks will host a workshop on how to field dress and process wild game. FWP Information and Education Program Manager Vivaca Crowser says they want to help hunters move an animal from the field to the freezer.

“It is a great opportunity to come out to the Fish, Wildlife and Parks office and learn some great tips on how to field dress wild game and how to go through the butchering process,” Crowser said. “Backcountry Hunters and Anglers has taken the lead on the workshop and we have teamed up with them. We hope anybody who feels like they can benefit from some hands-on instruction will come out.”

The event is free and no pre-registration is required. According to Croswer, this event is important for a number of reasons.

“We run into quite a few people who are fairly new to hunting or maybe haven’t hunted in a while and they need all the instruction from field dressing to how to prepare their own meat to get everything wrapped and put into the freezer,” Crowser said. “Also, one of the things we are going to be doing is going through the “gutless method” of field dressing, which is a bit different from some of the other methods. Maybe you know how to field dress, but you want to learn this method. This is a great chance to do that as well.”

The event is Wednesday, October 23, from 6-8pm, at the Missoula FWP office. The office is located at 3201 Spurgin Road. Participants should park in the FWP main parking lot and walk through the gate to FWP’s back building. For more information about this event, visit here.
