Montana certainly has its share of characters; some of them are famous and others more infamous. Either way, they can make for some fantastic stories.

My wife and I went camping with my brother-in-law and sister-in-law in their RV at one of the campgrounds in Ennis. We had a great time checking out all the stores and shops along the main drag and came across some of the friendliest folks. If you've never been to Ennis, or if it's been a bit since you visited the town, you should definitely check it out.

Of course, when you are spending time with family or friends, a lot of that time is spent eating. So, if you're looking for some great grub, Ennis has you covered.

One of the most popular places in town is Ennis Sugar High. If you're a lover of great burgers and milkshakes, this is a place you absolutely must check out.  I grew up in a town that had a few of the "old-fashioned" burger joints and am of the belief that a double cheeseburger and a shake might be the best food combo ever.  So any time I have a chance to check out a legitimate burger and shake place, I don't pass it up.

On our first night there, we were looking for a place to have dinner, and decided to do a "google search." Hank (my brother-in-law) mentioned that one of the reviews mentioned the Long Branch Saloon and the reviewer said, and I quote,

"This place has the BEST wood grilled steak!"
So we headed downtown to check it out.  The Long Branch Saloon is exactly what you think of when you think of a small town Montana bar.  With a bit of neon from the beer signs, there were folks lined up drinking their beverage of choice, plus a few tables to sit at and order a meal.  We found a table and the very friendly bartender came over and told us there were three things we could order.

The ribeye, the brisket, or the crab.
Both my brother-in-law and I decided to go with the ribeye and soon after that, we were introduced to Big Mama. Big Mama came out and introduced herself and then asked, "Who ordered the ribeye?" and "Are you ready for one of the best steaks you've ever had?"
After a relatively short wait, Big Mama delivered up two fantastic-looking rib eyes and to her credit, it was one of the best steaks I've ever had. Plus, she told us exactly what we needed to do to re-heat the leftovers for breakfast the next morning.
So, if you're headed over to Ennis, make sure you check out places like Deebo Meats, the Sportsmans Lodge, Yesterday's Soda Fountain, the Ennis Cafe, and of course the Long Branch Saloon.

Oh, and be sure you say "Hello" to Big Mama for me.
