Who doesn't love getting lost in a good crime show on TV? I'm always down for a gritty episode of Law & Order or the ridiculousness of David Caruso in CSI: Miami. Whatever show it might be, they always suck you in with some sort of dastardly act being committed before the opening credits. Then your favorite characters keep you hooked until they perfectly solve the case just before the closing credits roll. But when it comes to crime shows, what is the most popular one when it comes to Montana?

How did they solve the murder mystery of each state's favorite show?

The folks at e-conolight did some number crunching to come up with the most popular crime TV show in every state.

We analyzed the search volume for 75 of the most popular crime TV shows of all time. Using Google Trends data from January 2021 through January 2022, we were able to measure the popularity of each series. We then compared the interest for each show by U.S. state in order to determine the most popular crime TV show in every state and overall.

Some fun entries from the list

I love that Hawaii's top show was Magnum P.I. What else could it be? But it doesn't specify if it's the original or the remake. So I'm going to give the nod to the old school version with Tom Selleck and his killer mustache wearing all those great Hawaiian shirts! I'm also giving a high five to Michigan as it was the only state to have Brooklyn Nine-Nine as its favorite show. It might not be what comes to mind when you think of a stereotypical crime show, but if you can get past the fact that what you're watching is a comedy sitcom, it has some great writing. This clip below pretty much sums up the craziness of the show.

What show did Montana have in the top spot?

Montana was also pretty original when it came to its pick for the list. We were the only state to have True Detective as its favorite. If you're not familiar with the show, it's pretty cool how each season stands alone with different storylines and different actors.

The crime show to rule all crime shows!

What crime show receives the gold star for being the most popular overall? That honor goes to Criminal Minds as it was the top show in five states. You can see the complete list from e-conolight HERE.

Alright, who's ready for some popcorn and binging a good TV crime show tonight?
