UPDATE 4:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 17

Lake County Sheriff  Don Bell has released the identities of the deceased in the murder-suicide investigation in Polson.

They have been identified as:

Matthew Alan Pruchnik - 49 years old

Liam Bradly Pruchnik - 7 years old

Levi Kazio Pruchnik - 5 years old

Though an investigation is still underway, Bell said it appears Matthew Purchnik, the father of the children, intentionally killed the two children and himself by carbon monoxide poisoning in their home on Lakeview Dr., possibly on Friday, March 13.  It is suspected that the motive is related to an impending divorce and custody dispute with the mother of the children.  Deputies had arrested Matthew on charges related to domestic violence back in August of 2017.

The bodies of two young children and an adult male were discovered at a residence outside Polson on Monday, and the initial indication is that of a murder suicide.

Lake County Sheriff Don Bell told KGVO News on Tuesday afternoon that Lake County deputies were called to a residence outside Polson at about 2:30 p.m. on Monday for a report of suspicious activity.

Bell said, upon investigation, that the bodies of one adult male and two young children were discovered in the single family home.

This incident is under investigation by the Lake County Sheriff/Coroner’s office, however the initial indication is that of a murder suicide.

No further details will be released until next of kin have been notified.

The bodies were transported to the Montana State Crime Lab in Missoula for autopsy.

No other details were released.
