Prophets of Rage’s Tom Morello Celebrates Cubs World Series Victory at Late Aunt’s Gravesite

With the Chicago Cubs finally winning a World Series after a 108-year gap, there are a lot of joyous longtime fans and great stories that have emerged. Many Chicagoans were spotted writing the names of longtime Cub fans who had passed in chalk on the walls of Wrigley Field to celebrate the occasion. For Prophets of Rage guitarist Tom Morello, he also had a celebration with a long lost relative that was long overdue.

The guitarist posted a graveside party he held with his Aunt Isabelle on his Instagram account (see below), and during his recent appearance at the Bowl 4 Ronnie benefit, Morello spoke with us about it.

"My aunt Isabelle was the one who got me into the Cubs. She lived 82 years without a championship, so I was there in Cleveland when we won it and I flew back to Chicago and had a friend drive me down to a small town in central Illinois where she was buried, read her the newspaper article, popped a bottle of champagne, put the big 'W' down on her grave and had an awesome party, me and her. It was awesome."

Morello was still relishing the championship, having just viewed the World Series parade in Chicago a few hours prior to the Friday night event. "I saw the gathering. It was like the seventh largest gathering of people on the planet. Crazy! I mean Chicago knows how to do it baby," exclaimed the rocker.

It's been a big year for Morello, who gathered with three-quarters of Rage Against the Machine, Public Enemy's Chuck D and DJ Lord and Cypress Hill's B-Real to form Prophets of Rage. Though touring is done for 2016, Morello revealed that Prophets of Rage will return with more music and touring in 2017.
