Red Hot Chili Peppers Play Their First Show Since Anthony Kiedis Was Hospitalized
Two weeks ago, Red Hot Chili Peppers were forced to cancel several concerts after frontman Anthony Kiedis was rushed to a hospital just hours before their headlining performance at KROQ’s annual Weenie Roast in Los Angeles. Now Kiedis has opened up about the health scare in a new interview and the Chili Peppers made their triumphant return to the stage at Rock on the Range over the weekend.
Before the performance, the 53 year-old Kiedis told ET Canada that he was hospitalized when an intestinal flu and another virus he had recently contracted caused painful inflammation of scar tissue from previous hernia operations.
That becomes an incredible painful situation where you get a fever and pass out,” he said. "I feel good – not great, but good. I think I had to get sick to take a look at myself and get to the causes and conditions of my overall health. So it turned out to be a good thing, albeit painful.”
But Kiedis said it was almost more painful for him to disappoint fans. “I’d rather play deathly ill than not at all, but in this particular instance, I was starting to go down to the ground," he said. "I got some help and now I’ve got to figure things out.”
The Chili Peppers played a 15-song set at Rock on the Range in Ohio on Sunday, their first performance since they announced their upcoming album, The Getaway. They treated the crowd to the first live performance of the album's lead single, "Dark Necessities," along with longtime favorites "Suck My Kiss" and "Around the World."
