When we think of good music to party to on St. Patrick's day, Dropkick Murphys always comes to mind. The band is the epitome of Irish punk rock. Just listening to a few minutes of Dropkick Murphys will have you craving whiskey and a green beer.

A few years back, we had the privilege of sitting down with DKM frontman Al Barr, prior to his performance at the Adams Center. The band has visited us multiple times over the last decade. Each time they stop in Missoula, they bring more and more energy.

During our in-depth interview, Al and I discuss a little about the Murphy's hometown of Boston. One of the few places in America that can claim to be more Irish than Butte, MT. We discover that landing their single "Shipping up to Boston" in the Martin Scorsese film "The Departed," led to the band narrowly missing out on winning an Acadamy Award. That's RIGHT, Dropkick nearly won an Oscar.

With St Patrick's here, we all are a little bit Irish. As we gear up for some whiskey, green beer, and corned beef and cabbage, listen to our full interview with Al Barr of the Dropkick Murphys.

Don't forget we have another outstanding Irish punk band coming to visit us this September. Flogging Molly has announced a show at the Kettlehouse Amphitheater on September 13th. Teaming up with The Interrupters and Tiger Army, you will not want to miss it. Tickets on sale this Friday (3/18) at 10a.
