Judas Priest’s Rob Halford to Receive ‘Lemmy’ Honor at Loudwire Music Awards; Body Count, Halestorm, Starset + Power Trip Among Initial Performers
The inaugural Loudwire Music Awards ceremony and concert is starting to take shape, with more details to reveal today for the Oct. 24 event. In addition to the previously announced Courage Award honoree Tony Iommi, the Metal God himself, Judas Priest's Rob Halford, will be receiving the "Lemmy" Lifetime Achievement Award. Plus, we've got news on the initial performance lineup along with ticket details.
As stated, Halford is receiving the Lifetime Achievement honor at the Loudwire Music Awards, which has been named the "Lemmy" in honor of iconic Motorhead frontman Lemmy Kilmister. Each year the award will be granted to an artist who embodies the spirit of Lemmy, heavy metal and rock 'n' roll.
"At long last the metal stars are aligned and I’m stoked to attend this year’s Loudwire Awards show," says Halford. "I’m excited to shout hails with horns up for all of my friends at Loudwire and all the bands and the fans! It’s going to be a hell of a crazy night of good times and major surprises!"
Halford is also among an initial lineup of performers at the Loudwire Music Awards that includes Body Count, Halestorm, Starset and Power Trip.
Body Count's Ice-T states, "Body Count are excited about performing at this amazing event. Loudwire has always greatly supported us and we can’t wait to kick off the show to set the tone right off the bat. It’s metal and hard rock’s premiere award show and we are coming to tear the Novo up. We’ve also got some special surprises up our sleeve, so you don’t wanna miss out. Body Count’s in the house. Let's do this." The group is supporting their standout 2017 release, Bloodlust.
Lzzy Hale of Halestorm adds, "I'm so looking forward to the Loudwire Awards this year, it's a Rock ‘n’ Roll family reunion with all our friends there representing the genres that drive both our horns and hearts!" Halestorm recently issued their ReAniMate 3: The CoVeRs eP and have been working toward a new album while continuing as one of the hardest touring bands in the rock scene.
Starset are promoting their sophomore set Vessels, which features the hit single "Monster," the most played track at Active Rock radio in 2017. The band's eye-catching "demonstrations" have been generating plenty of buzz and they are also branching out with a new graphic novel coming in September. Meanwhile, Power Trip played a Loudwire-backed showcase at SXSW back in the spring and their Nightmare Logic album is a standout release of 2017.
You can see all of the newly announced bands, along with honorees Tony Iommi and Rob Halford, at the inaugural Loudwire Music Awards taking place Oct. 24 at The Novo in the L.A. Live complex in downtown Los Angeles. Chris Jericho is hosting this year's event.
Nominees in several categories, such as Album and Song of the Year, we'll be announced on Aug. 15, with fan voting starting that day.
