Rockers We Lost in 2016 [Watch]
The year 2016 has been devastating when it comes to losing beloved musicians. Many of our favorites have been taken from us, so we honor them now with this In Memoriam reel of the Rockers We’ve Lost in 2016.
This year didn’t wait long before taking its first icon — David Bowie. The master of reinvention passed away on Jan. 10, just two days after his 69th birthday. Bowie had just released the massively acclaimed Blackstar, an album recorded while the artist had quietly been battling liver cancer. The world was shocked by Bowie’s sudden passing, and we still mourn the man’s loss today.
Another one-of-a-kind star, Prince, unexpectedly died on April 21, 2016. One of the most admired innovators and performers in popular music history, Prince’s death affected everybody the second they learned of the purple one’s passing. Prince had sadly been battling addiction to painkillers for some time and ultimately died due to an overdose of fentanyl.
Megadeth drumming legend Nick Menza departed our world this year at the age of 51. Menza actually collapsed onstage while performing with OHM in Los Angeles, succumbing to heart failure at far too young an age.
