Montana has been known to have an earthquake or two, so maybe a song about shaking wouldn't be out of place.

But actually there's probably a better reason, having to do with a Montana lad and his claim to music fame. While Montana does have a state song, ballad and lullaby, one of our state lawmakers believes it's time for an official state rock 'n roll song.

AP and the Great Falls Tribune report that fortunately, our state legislators are tackling this tough, controversial issue head on, led by Democrat Representative Jacob Bachmeier of Havre. He has proposed that the catchy "Hippy Hippy Shake" become Montana's official rock 'n roll groove. Don't feel bad if you don't recognize it. We're going back to 1959 when then-17-year-old Chan Romero wrote it while he was a senior at Billings Senior High School. The song has been featured in a number of movies and recorded by many artists including the Beatles, Georgia Satellites and Davey Jones of the Monkees.

Chan Romero is still with us and living in Southern California. He says he'd be honored to have his song represent Montana. Glad that even in his mid-70s, Chan still has the Hippy Hippy Shake for goodness sake!
