No I am not talking about the "my face is melting" mushrooms. For those of you that don't know me too well. I am kind of a culinary geek. I love hooking up gourmet food at home, just to prove to myself that I can do it. I am almost as bad as Stan's Dad off of South Park. I will watch Food Network like someone watching porn. Too have a delicacy like Morel Mushrooms abundantly available in our area, for free, is a opportunity I could not miss.

I'm talking about a piece of fungus that can go for upwards near $250 per pound. They are used in only the finest restaurants around the world, and I have a plastic shopping bag full of them in my fridge. If you have never tried them, they are amazing. They may look a little weird. Almost like something out of an alien movie. But don't let the looks fool you.

They are surprisingly easy to find too. Just go to the local Forest Service office and get a permit and map of areas that have recently seen a forest fire. I chose the "Saddle Complex fire" up the Skalkaho. Morels love the fresh burns. It also makes them easier to spot since the fire burnt all the under growth.
