Big news, Smashing Pumpkins fans: The band has announced plans to mount a major fall 2012 North American arena tour. The trek will kick off on Oct. 10 in Seattle, Wash. and is scheduled to touch down in a total of 14 U.S. cities, although specific venues in each city and the remaining dates following the tour kick-off have yet to be revealed.

Holders of Citi credit cards will have access to pre-sale tickets starting Aug. 27 via Citi’s Private Pass Program, while general sales information will be announced in each individual market shortly. The band also recently confirmed details of all stops on the Canadian leg of the tour, starting with an Oct. 2 gig in Winnipeg, Manitoba and running through Oct. 28 in Montreal, Quebec.

Each concert will be divided into two parts, with the first half featuring the band’s new “album within an album” ‘Oceania’ performed in its entirety, and the second half highlighted by greatest hits, fan favorites and even deep cuts from their extensive back catalog.

The Pumpkins’ performances will be backed by visuals from renowned artist Sean Evans, who most recently assisted with the staging of Pink Floyd star Roger Waters‘ massive ‘The Wall’ tour. A press release promises that the “Pumpkins will be using new technology in video-mapping to create something new and previously unseen,” and while we admit we’re not quite sure what that entails, it sounds pretty damn cool to us.
