This Iconic Cartoon Character Has Surprising Montana Roots
Did you know that one of TV’s most iconic animated characters has Montana roots? Yes, you read that correctly, Peggy Hill from King of the Hill is a born-and-raised resident of the Treasure State! If you’re a fan of the show (or just a proud Montanan), let’s take a minute to appreciate Peggy’s unexpected state pride.
Here’s the deal: Peggy Hill, the proud Mother, substitute teacher, Boggle champ, and translator, was raised on a cattle ranch in Montana. In the King of the Hill episode “A Rover Runs Through It,” we learn about her Montana roots. Honestly, it makes way too much sense about her. From her no-nonsense attitude to her Montana grit, Peggy’s upbringing is what developed her larger-than-life personality that we know and love (or love to cringe at).

In “A Rover Runs Through It,” the Hills load up the truck and drive to Montana to see Peggy’s estranged mother, Maddy Platter. It’s a classic mix of humor and heart, between family drama, ranch life flashbacks and Peggy struggling to reconnect with her roots. Who can forget Maddy’s sharp-tongued take-downs or the moment Peggy gets back in the saddle (literally) after so many years?
Let’s be clear: even though Peggy loves to talk about her Texas Rangers, she’s Montana-born and bred. We’re big on personality, big on independence, and perhaps a bit too big on self-belief. Sound familiar?
Oh, and I have really good news for King of the Hill fans: the show returns in 2025! That’s right, the Texas family will be back on TV with new episodes again. Rumor has it that new episodes will return to Fox in "Early 2025," so we are anxiously waiting for a release date.
Next time you’re watching King of the Hill and Peggy is bragging about her “genius-level IQ” or her questionable Spanish skills, just remember: she’s one of us. Montana formed her into who she is, quirks and all. And frankly, we wouldn’t have it any other way.
