Americans report the most UFO sightings in the world, and the second highest number of reports come from right here in Montana, only second to Washington state. Maybe it's because we are the Big Sky state, and we spend more time looking up at our beautiful skies than other Americans. Or, maybe we're just whack jobs.

According to the National UFO Reporting Center, UFO sightings are at an all-time high. From 1905 through 1980, there were less than 500 sightings a year.  In the '80s, that went up to about 1,000, then in the '90s, it was up to 4,000, and now, reports of UFO sightings are getting close to 4,500 to 5,000 per year.

And the rate of UFO sightings in the U.S. is almost 300 times higher than the world average. Perhaps Americans, in general, are 300 times higher?

The website VizThis broke it down, and the states with the highest rate of UFO sightings are:

  1. Washington
  2. Montana
  3. Vermont
  4. Oregon
  5. Alaska
  6. Maine
  7. New Hampshire
  8. Arizona
  9. New Mexico
  10. Idaho

Perhaps Tom DeLonge was right all along? The last time we saw any proof of flying saucers over Missoula skies was last year when Missoulian Shawn Nomura shared a video of what he witnessed.
