Do you have a teenager who rocks the school paper and/or yearbook or is considering journalism? They'd be perfect for this free summer camp and could really set themselves up for success once they hit college. I wish somebody had told me about the "J School" when I was in high school, I was totally oblivious to my options but would have loved to get into UM journalism, I was an idiot, kids are so much smarter nowadays. And yeah, that's something an old person would say, but it's so true.

The award-winning Journalism school is offering a free summer camp to journalism and media enthusiasts in grades 9 through college freshman. The camp is geared toward students who will be in grades 9 to 12, but incoming first-year college students are encouraged to apply as well. The three day camp will run from July 18th to 21st and is intended to allow students to explore and build media and journalism skills. Participants will stay on campus, learn from journalism faculty members, make connections with media professionals, explore the role of journalism in society and get hands-on experience in writing, reporting, photography, graphic design, social media and more. It sounds like a blast, I wish I could apply!

Tuition, room and board are free for all accepted students thanks to UM’s Top-10 Hearst Award-winning School of Journalism, as well as Humanities Montana and support from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, however, there is a $25 application fee. Get more info and apply here, or, if you have further questions you can reach out to Director Denise Dowling: denise.dowling@umontana.edu
